Paul Robinson, the interview

Paul Robinson is an american boulderer, known for some famous ascents up to V15/8c all around the world like Trip-Hop in Font, Lucid Dreaming in Bishop or Monkey Wedding in Rocklands.

He’s working on « Uncharted Lines« , a movie dedicated to bouldering around the world, featuring himself, but also Jimmy Webb, Chris Sharma and others. Uncharted Lines should be ready in early 2017. Below is an australian segment of this movie. Check its Instagram page out.

ZeBloc: Who are you?
Paul: Paul Robinson, 28 years old, professional climber, amateur surfer, videographer, and lover of the outdoors currently living in colorful colorado

ZeBloc: Where are you now and what are you doing?
Paul: I am currently at my house in colorado, eating dinner, and watching the snow fall. I am antsy for the coming days. once i shovel off the snow on my project i cannot wait to try it!

ZeBloc: What are your climbing projects?
Paul: My main project right now is hypnotized minds, v15/16 in rmnp colorado. however, I have quite a few secret projects in south africa that i cannot wait to return for in a month!

ZeBloc: Looks like you travel a lot. What are your favorite areas in the US and abroad?
Paul: hmmm good question. in the states, i really love joes valley, rmnp, red rocks, the sandstone around chattanooga, TN, and some of the hidden gems in my old stomping grounds of the north east. abroad, I would have to say font is on the top of the list but the cederbergs in south africa and the grampians are incredible too! can’t go wrong with any of those areas.

ZeBloc: Have you ever worn a harness?
Paul: hahahahaha, of course. how else would i clean boulders!?

ZeBloc: Which US areas would you recommend to european boulders?
Paul: I would recommend joes valley, hueco, and bishop. colorado is amazing but it is very difficult to get it perfect. if you are coming for a long time sure, but coming this far to climb, you can’t go wrong with going to the desert. the weather in the winter is always good and you are sure to have an amazing time.

ZeBloc: Anything else than climbing in your life?
Paul: surfing, photography, and videography. i love them all and couldn’t live without either of them.

ZeBloc: Who is the best boulderer in the world?
Paul: Jimmy Webb

ZeBloc: You are one of the first to give me a name as an answer to the last question. Do you owe something to Jimmy or is he really better than the others now ?
Paul: Because he truly is the best haha
